We all know that life flourishes during warming periods, therefore, if we really are experiencing a tipping point for climate change, it means that in the future there will be rain forests nearly everywhere, so much life, diversity, and abundance, that we will have to figure out a way to deal with all of that. Okay so, what do we do, use Agent Orange, or round-up on all the increased vegetation, or is there a better answer I ask? Recently, this topic came up at our think tank, so let's discuss all this for a moment shall we?

Have you ever seen that documentary on TV, on the Discovery Channel which begs the question; "What If Humans Vanished Tomorrow?" and the documentary goes on to explain how nature would retake human civilizations, and in 10, 20, 50, or even 100-years there would be hardly any notice that we were even here. Within 1000-years, or 10,000-years, all the skyscrapers would have fallen down, and we wouldn't have anything left to show for our ancient civilizations like the Egyptian pyramids made of stone.

Basically, if global warming gets into a runaway situation, the plant vegetation will grow so fast, it will begin to immediately encroach upon all the cities and towns where humans live. Scenic highways will be overgrown with vegetation, and it will take incredible amounts of manpower to keep the highway clear. There has to be a better way, and here's what I came up with; we use copper nail gun systems for defoliation. We use robotics systems which shoot copper nails into trees, vines, and bushes which are encroaching.

We don't want to use Agent Orange or too much herbicide because that can get into the groundwater, and it will hurt human health. We also do not wish to kill any of the regular plant life which is not affecting us, as all we want to do is keep the roads clear. Perhaps, you are a tree hugger and you don't like this idea, and you will send me a nasty e-mail for even suggesting it. I would submit to you that global warming is false, and we don't have anything to worry about, at least not in the present period.

However, if global warming is real, we are going to have to figure out a way to clear the brush, and keep our civilization from being overrun and overgrown by plant life. Indeed, I hope you will please consider all this and think on it, as it is a future concept topic worthy of note.

Above Ground Coal Steam Generation Scheme Considered

This whole concept of fracking for oil, natural gas, or even extracting lithium via geothermal schemes seems to be a great way to unlock quite a bit of energy potential and take advantage of our natural resources in a highly efficient way. Now then, what if we jammed a pipe system into above ground coal deposits, and pushed it along, as it let more coal into a hot chamber?

The pipe would wiggle its way through the coal deposits and we would keep it lit generating heat, and adding water to make steam. We could use that steam to run generators to make electricity. Okay so, this makes sense, and it would be a good way to generate energy, so let me explain this further.

Since we would be burning the coal in an underground and closed environment, it would be extremely easy to capture the CO2 which was generated. We can use the CO2 for making carbon nano-tube structures, such as carbon composite wings and fuselages for aircraft, trains, ships, and building materials. Perhaps even car bodies, truck bodies, and buses too.

Another thought is to simply take some coal, spread it out over the ground, put a carbon nano-tube bag over it with holes in it, just like a kitchen noodle bowl, and burn what you needed collecting the excess CO2, and allow another carbon nano-tube sheet to lay over the top sandwiched between a third.

As the center sheet vibrated against dome shaped bag or first cover, and the third cover with no holes in it, this would produce friction and create energy. Copper atoms could be put between the carbon nano-tubes during the manufacturing process, and this would cause the excitement of those atoms inside to increase the amount of energy generated.

Such designs would be simple to control, use, and capture the CO2 emissions while trapping in the heat and steam to generate energy. In the secondary scheme, the vibrations of the structure itself would create a second round of energy. This would make it extremely efficient and wasting very little in the energy conversion process. Why don't we take this science of fracking to the next level, why don't we simplify energy generation, with new innovative technologies?

Further, I ask; why can't we just keep it simple, and therefore simply keeping it efficient. Indeed, if you have eco-innovations, ideas, or theories on how to generate more energy for our civilization, and do it in an environmentally friendly manner then by all means let's talk. Mico-Logica Alters Our Perception of the Magic of Mushrooms in Oaxaca, Mexico

When we think of mushrooms and the southern Mexico state of Oaxaca, the first thing which traditionally comes to mind is María Sabina, Huautla de Jiménez and hallucinogenic "magic" mushrooms. But slowly that's all changing as a result of the groundbreaking work of Josefina Jiménez and Johann Mathieu in mycology, through their company, Mico-lógica.

Based in the village of Benito Juárez, located in Oaxaca's Ixtlán district (more commonly known as the Sierra Norte, the state's main ecotourism region), Mico-lógica's mission is threefold: to train both Mexicans and visitors to the country in the low-cost cultivation of a variety of mushroom species; to educate about the medicinal, nutritional and environmental (sustainable) value of mushrooms; and to conduct ongoing research regarding optimum climatic regions and the diversity of substrata for mushroom culture.

The French-born Mathieu moved to Mexico, and in fact to Huautla de Jiménez, in 2005. "Yes, coming all the way to Mexico from France to pursue my interest in mushrooms seems like a long way to travel," Mathieu explained in a recent interview in Oaxaca. "But there really wasn't much of an opportunity to conduct studies and grow a business in Western Europe," he continues, "since reverence for mushrooms had been all but completely eradicated by The Church over the course of centuries; and I learned that Mexico still maintains a respect and appreciation for the medicinal and nutritional value of hongos. Mexico is far from mycophobic."

Huautla de Jiménez is more than a five hour drive from the closest metropolitan center. Accordingly, Mathieu eventually realized that staying in Huautla, while holding an historic allure and being in a geographic region conducive to working with mushrooms, would hinder his efforts to grow a business and cultivate widespread interest in learning about fungi. Mathieu became cognizant of the burgeoning reputation of Oaxaca's ecotourism communities of the Sierra Norte, and indeed the Feria Regional de Hongos Silvestres (regional wild mushroom festival), held annually in Cuahimoloyas.

Mathieu met Josefina Jiménez at the summertime weekend mushroom event. Jiménez had moved to Oaxaca from hometown Mexico City in 2002. The two shared similar interests; Jiménez had studied agronomy, and for close to a decade had been working with sustainable agriculture projects in rural farming communities in the Huasteca Potosina region of San Luis Potosí, the mountains of Guerrero and the coast of Chiapas. Mathieu and Jiménez became business, and then life partners in Benito Juárez.

Mathieu and Jiménez are concentrating on three mushroom species in their hands-on seminars; oyster (seta), shitake and reishi. Their one-day workshops are for oyster mushrooms, and two-day clinics for the latter two species of fungus. "With reishi, and to a lesser extent shitake, we're also teaching a fair bit about the medicinal uses of mushrooms, so more time is required," says Mathieu, "and with oyster mushrooms it's predominantly

Recycle, reuse and renew. These are three of the words that are frequently heard when it comes to the environment. People all over the planet are taking these words seriously and the companies which produce lanyards are also taking these words to heart. They are finding new and innovative ways to make their product more environmentally friendly. One way that they are doing this is by using materials which are "green."

There are a number of fabrics that are made from crops. Cotton and bamboo are two exceptional examples of these. Cotton is a plant which has been grown and harvested for centuries. It is a renewable resource. Cotton plants are commercially grown in a number of different countries. The balls are picked from the plant, and then they are spun into yarn. Cotton can either be pure, or it can be blended with other fabrics. It is easy to wash and clean.

Bamboo is another plant that can be harvested and made into cloth. If you have never seen anything made of bamboo cloth, you will be surprised. The cloth which is made is actually soft and durable. The bamboo plant is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet which makes t ideal for commercial use. Furthermore, the plant itself is extremely resilient to all kinds of pests. This means that it can be grown commercially without the need for harsh chemicals. Once the plant is of an adequate size, it is cut down and mashed. The pulp is then processed and spun into yarn. Bamboo cloth can either be pure or can be blended with cotton or similar materials.

Satin is another fabric, which comes from silk, which is also a renewable material. Silk comes from silk worms, which are commercially farmed. Silk farming is an industry that has been around for hundreds of years.

Although lanyards last for years, there may come a time when you do have to get rid of your old ones. Lanyards that are produced using any of these three fabrics are biodegradable. One of the biggest factors concerning the environment is the amount of garbage in the landfills, fortunately lanyards will not add to this growing issue. Alternatively, you could have your old lanyard recycled as these three materials are completely recyclable as well.
